The state-of-the-art Armand Hammer Alumni-Student Center was the first new construction project on campus in 30 years and designed by KSQ Architects, to provide a modern, sleek and youthful structure. Under the Bomanite Toppings Systems, Bomanite Chemical Stain was chosen to set the design in motion, and installed by Bomanite Licensee, Bomanite of Tulsa, Inc.
The $11 million building encompasses 28,000 square feet and was designed to provide food, fun and fellowship for ORU’s students and alumni. Approximately 16,384 square feet of Bomanite Chemically Stained flooring was provided throughout the building to complement a vibrant, youthful color palette that delineates student activity zones into quiet spaces, pool tables and video game consoles, live performance areas, an Internet café and a 12’ x 21’ screen for viewing concerts, sporting events or video game competitions.
The project was completed in three phases working around other trades to keep the building of the project moving and on schedule. Several dilutions of Bomanite Chemical Stain were used to achieve the mix of lighter and darker colors and then sealed with an acrylic sealer for protection.
Bomanite Chemical Stains are water and acid-based solutions of metallic salts formulated to “color-etch” new or existing concrete surfaces. These penetrating solutions react with cements to form insoluble precipitants of varying colors to produce permanent, transparent color that will not chip, crack, peel or fade. Bomanite Chemical Stains give concrete an attractive variegated or marbleized appearance in a variety of earth tone colors, such as tans, browns, reddish browns, and greens.
Kitchen Polished Concrete Floor
Bomanite Licensee, Premier Concrete Construction, LLC, based out of New Hampshire created a warm and inviting Patene Teres polished concrete floor for homeowners looking to add a distinctive look to their new 6,000 square foot home. The concrete was poured over a Radiant Heating System, polished, stained and saw cut into desired shapes to provide an elegant, warm look and feel to the home. The homeowners commented that the floor was so smooth that it actually felt “soft” to them even in bare feet!
The Patène Teres system utilizes Bomanite Chemical Stains and Bomanite Concrete Dyes to color fully cured concrete as part of the polishing process. The concrete slab typically starts out as uncolored gray or for some applications have Bomanite Integral Color in the concrete or had Bomanite Color Hardener applied to the surface during concrete placement and finishing. The floor is ground then stained or dyed. With the use of skilled saw cutting techniques, patterns or designs can be achieved in conjunction with the Patène Teres process. From simple monotone shades through bright and vibrant colors, the final appearance can be metropolitan chic or variegated and rustic. Patène Teres by Bomanite is intended primarily for new construction or major renovation projects, has the widest range of design variations and provides a highly architectural appearance.
Residential Polished Concrete Hallway
Bomanite Con-Color is a tinted, non-toxic, odorless, hydrolyzed lithium quartz compound that penetrates into concrete and cementitious toppings, reacting to form a hard, abrasion resistant permanent crystalline structure. Bomanite Con-Color will allow the concrete or topping to breathe, permitting moisture vapor transmission, but retards the transfer of damaging and discoloring alkali materials. When applied to concrete, Bomanite Con-Color will provide variegated and translucent coloring effects without creating a film or coating that can be worn away. Bomanite Con-Color is a viable alternative to traditional acid-based stains when a larger color palette or ease of installation is required.
