Premier Concrete Construction installs Bomanite Modena TG Epoxy Terrazzo at historic theater.

Colonial Theater Keene, located in Keene, NH, is like a Grand Old Lady edging closer and closer to her 100th Birthday in 2024.  Last year she received much more than just a cosmetic facelift, it was more like a rebirth and not just a renovation using decorative concrete, without losing the integrity of her Historic look and charm.  To not violate any of the city of Keene’s Historic District standards, the building’s exterior was untouched.  The interior of the theatre has been made much more spacious.  Executive Director of the Colonial Theater Alec Doyle said, “What used to be a very narrow or what I call ‘bowling alley’ kind of lobby is now completely opened up to the north and south of the building. We’ve increased the size of the lobby by about four times.”  In conjunction with the project designer Weller & Michal Architects, the main contractor DEW Construction selected Bomanite licensee Premier Concrete Construction to complete and realize the vision of the renovation.  Dew Construction was familiar with the expertise and craftsmanship of Premier Concrete Construction’s projects using Bomanite Toppings Systems and Bomanite Custom Polishing Systems.

The lobby was not only enlarged, but it is also now handicapped accessible, while retaining the style and color scheme of the original theater.  The increased lobby space allows room for a new concessions bar that has been added to the inside of the theatre.  Doyle said, “We consciously retrieved and protected a number of the interesting historical architectural pieces.”  Some of those pieces include the original ticketing cages, which are now on display on the concessions side of the lobby.  Patrons feel like it is a perfect place for a selfie.  Like many of the “accent pieces” saved for display, the old ticketing cages reflect the original gold and beige colors of the theater and include original muse motifs.

Supply Chain Bites Construction Schedule

When sourcing the materials from the original specifications, Premier Concrete Construction was confronted with major supply chain issues and was told that nothing would be available until five months after the job was scheduled to begin.  Instead, Premier Concrete Construction created and resubmitted samples, which were approved.  They ran into the same supply chain issues with the precast cove suppliers, so they opted to set up their own shop and precast over 300LF of cove base and the full set of stairs and risers per specification.  They once again demonstrated why they are the concrete company of choice in demanding decorative concrete situations and scenarios.  They pride themselves in their craftsmanship, creativity, and competent ability to solve problems.

Premier Concrete Construction chose Bomanite Custom Polishing Systems using Bomanite Modena TG Epoxy Terrazzo with two colors and a diamond strip pattern as per the specifications.   Bomanite Modena TG is renowned for its characteristics because it is highly durable including the color, has low lifecycle cost, has excellent abrasion resistance, has a wide variety and size of aggregates, offers a range of aggregate exposure, has a wide color selection to choose from, is integrally colored, and has a highly decorative appearance.  It is an engineered polymer-modified cementitious interior floor topping that is bonded to the surface of cured concrete and can transform ordinary concrete into beautiful decorative flooring.  Once cured, Bomanite Modena TG is ground to expose the desired amounts of aggregate, then polished to the required gloss level and treated with a Bomanite stain resist.  Unlike comparable terrazzo flooring, Bomanite Modena TG is designed specifically to be polished with a fine aggregate gradation similar to that of concrete.

Award Winning Decorative Concrete

Premier Concrete Construction earned the 2021 Best Bomanite Custom Polishing Systems Project Gold Award for this inspirational transformation of a very old landmark.  Concrete is what you make of it, and the same can be said of community.  The grand reopening of the theater was held on March 29, 2022.  The Colonial Theater Keene posted a Facebook page with pictures complete with balloons.  The comments included: “Wow”, “Gorgeous”, and “Looks awesome”.  On the day before the opening, they posted a wide-angle camera shot and said, “The lobby is OPEN! Free popcorn. Delicious ice cream from Stonewall Farm. Live music. And chances to win tickets, or even a $500 Colonial gift card!”  The excitement and enthusiasm from the surrounding community has been palpable and they are not disappointed.  The new decorative concrete flooring, the stairs, and the cove base throughout, will enhance the beauty, the enjoyment, and the longevity of this historic theatre well into her next 100 years.

Architectural Concrete and Design installs Bomanite Toppings System to renovate Valley Fair Mall’s interior concourse, replacing outdated tile with a stunning stamped overlay.

Valley Fair Mall in West Valley City, Utah offers over 830,000 square feet of shopping, dining, and entertainment with over 120 retail stores and delicious dining options to explore.  In 2012, Bomanite Licensee Architectural Concrete & Design Inc. undertook a 70,000 square foot concrete makeover within Valley Fair Mall, retrofitting the concourse with a stampable topping system.  This system was to be installed over the existing ceramic tile to save time, money, and eliminate the mess of ripping up the tile.

Family owned and one of the first Bomanite Licensees in the nation, Architectural Concrete & Design has installed a wide variety of hardscapes for commercial, residential, and municipal projects.  This interior mall project was a new venture for Devin Johnson, the company’s Vice President, who collaborated with Bomanite’s Technical Services Division to develop the application procedures that would ensure that this Bomanite Toppings System could be placed directly over the existing tile.

Bomanite Systems

Bomanite Thin-Set is a specially formulated polymer-modified topping mix that can be imprinted and will bond to any stable, structurally sound substrate.  It is typically installed at 3/8-inch thick and can be feathered to almost a zero edge.  Bomanite Thin-Set is as an extremely effective alternative to demolishing an existing substrate and can be exposed to traffic quickly, which was a priority for this job as the work performed on the expansive 70,000 plus square-foot concourse could not be completed during normal working hours or block daily access to any store in the mall.

The process selected used aggressive surface preparation followed by a 100% solids epoxy primer broadcasted to rejection with silica sand to create a mechanical bond for the overlay.  After this process, the crew would on the next night apply a scratch coat of Thin-Set II followed by a screeded 3/8-inch thick layer of Thin-Set II, that was then imprinted with one of four Bomanite imprint patterns used throughout the mall.

After this part of the process was complete each morning, the crew would lay down a section of breathable landscape fabric over the affected entrances and rope off everything they had stamped.  The timing had to be precise so that the stamped area had time to dry and could withstand foot traffic.  After large sections of flooring were textured, secondary coloring and sealing were undertaken prior to turning over the fully finished floors to the mall.

Design Upgrade

Featured throughout the concourse is Bomanite Basketweave Used Brick that was integrally colored with Bomanite Brick Red as well as Bomacron Random Slate in Shale Gray.  To create visual breaks, an 8-inch English Slate Texture border in Sand was created with some areas featuring straight lines while other areas feature a free-flowing design.  To create even more variety, the Bomanite 12-inch Boardwalk pattern with Sonora Tan Color Hardener was used to enhance the mall’s roundabout and accent other selected areas.

Then and Now

The Valley Fair Mall makeover was perfectly suited to use an overlay, allowing the mall owners to avoid a messy and more costly demolition route.  Architectural Concrete & Design expertly installed Bomanite Thin-Set II in combination with Bomanite Imprint Systems to renovate and recreate the mall’s design aesthetic.  The “proof is in the pudding” when we say Bomanite Architectural Concrete Systems are top notch; Bomanite Licensed Installers provide the expertise and proficiency to create long-lasting, durable, and beautifully decorative flooring options.

Architectural Concrete and Design installs Bomanite Toppings System to renovate Valley Fair Mall’s interior concourse, replacing outdated tile with a stunning stamped overlay.

A decade has passed since Architectural Concrete & Design successfully installed the Bomanite Toppings System and imprint patterns.  While their decorative concrete prowess provided a stunning decorative concrete layout that impressed patrons and exceeded the mall owner’s expectations, the long-lasting results still stand out as a feature piece inside the mall.  Not only did Architectural Concrete & Design produce a product with durability and longevity, but they added distinct decorative detail that showcases quality of work and superior design that has and will continue to stand the test of time.

Bomanite licensee Musselman & Hall Contractors installed decorative concrete flooring at Eureka Elementary in Eureka, MO using Bomanite Custom Polishing Systems with Bomanite Renaissance.

When Rockford School district needed a new school constructed, they specified decorative concrete flooring that was at a reasonable cost but, just as important, durable, and beautiful.  Eureka Elementary, located in Eureka, MO, and part of the school district, was recently built by HOF Construction.  The project designer, Dickinson Hussman, selected Bomanite licensee Musselman & Hall Contractors to tackle the intricacies of the challenging design.  Challenging projects done within the time allotted, even if shorter than optimum, are a forte for Musselman & Hall and they were a perfect match for this project.

Complex Design Done by Skilled Bomanite Craftsmen

Bomanite licensee Musselman & Hall Contractors installed decorative concrete flooring at Eureka Elementary in Eureka, MO using Bomanite Custom Polishing Systems with Bomanite Renaissance.

Musselman & Hall used Bomanite Custom Polishing Systems with Bomanite Renaissance to complete the 22,500 square foot project.  The project required four colors of Bomanite Renaissance poured in contact with each other in a geometric pattern of bands, then ground and polished as one slab.  They placed 2-inch-thick topping slabs in four different integral colors.  The Bomanite colors used were French Gray, Natural Gray, Sand, and Coquina.  The latter required the use of white cement, which was a challenge of its own, because white cement sets very quickly.

Bomanite licensee Musselman & Hall Contractors installed decorative concrete flooring at Eureka Elementary in Eureka, MO using Bomanite Custom Polishing Systems with Bomanite Renaissance.

The layout of the four colors made it crucial that both the formwork and the placement of topping slabs be installed with absolute precision to achieve sharp construction seams and maintain even aggregate exposure throughout.  The schedule required their crews to begin grinding and polishing in the first areas they placed before they were even completed with the slab installations.  The crews then ground and polished, as one slab, to a satin sheen and full aggregate exposure.

Renaissance by Bomanite Provides Lustrous Durable Flooring

Bomanite licensee Musselman & Hall Contractors installed decorative concrete flooring at Eureka Elementary in Eureka, MO using Bomanite Custom Polishing Systems with Bomanite Renaissance.

Bomanite’s Custom Polishing System, Renaissance by Bomanite, provides a lustrous finish to floors made with Bomanite’s premium Bomanite Integral Color.  Color-saturation, the hallmark of Bomanite’s integrally colored floors, is unsurpassed with this one-time finish. For rich color at a reasonable cost, this is the perfect finish for any newly designed surface.  Other features and benefits of Renaissance by Bomanite are good abrasion resistance, a range of aggregate size is possible with various exposure levels, as well as a natural appearance.

Bomanite licensee Musselman & Hall Contractors installed decorative concrete flooring at Eureka Elementary in Eureka, MO using Bomanite Custom Polishing Systems with Bomanite Renaissance.

The primary benefit of Bomanite Renaissance is the simplicity of installation and durability of color.  With no topical dyes or products needed to achieve color in the floor, the process is much like polishing uncolored concrete.  The Bomanite Renaissance system incorporates Bomanite Integral Color into the decorative concrete prior to placement and finishing of the flooring.  Once cured the concrete is ground to expose the desired amount of aggregate, then polished to the required gloss level and treated with a Bomanite stain resist.  Renaissance by Bomanite is intended primarily for new construction or major renovation projects.

There are few events in history that can create a rift in the space-time continuum of a community, a veritable paradigm shift that causes ripple effects worldwide.  The death of George Floyd in May of 2020, and subsequent protests and riots, in Minneapolis is just such an event.  Floyd’s death occurred less than a mile from the Target East Lake Street store, which was nearly destroyed, and the Third Precinct Police Station, which was burned to the ground, is directly across the street from that store.  The loss of Target East Lake made it hard for the people in this south Minneapolis neighborhood to buy groceries since there were no other grocery stores within walking distance.

How We Rebuild Is More Important

What makes this restoration unique is Target’s commitment to include community input.  “Today, with construction well underway, I recognize that how we rebuild is just as important — if not more so — as when we rebuild. We want the Lake Street community to view this store as a part of itself, not just a place to shop,” Cephas Williams Jr., a group Vice-President at Target, said. “So, we’re listening to the voices of the community and applying what we’re learning and will continue to do so.”  Cephas William’s full statement is titled, To Our Lake Street Minneapolis Community: We’re Listening, Learning, and Re-Opening.  Target’s community outreach was in-depth and extensive.

Partnering With People Who Live Nearby

Bomanite licensee Concrete Arts installed the decorative concrete flooring at the newly redesigned and reconstructed Target East Lake in Minneapolis, MN, using Bomanite Custom Polishing Systems with Bomanite Patene Teres.

Target partnered with Nawal Noor, CEO of Noor Companies, a local Black-woman-owned General Contractor and Developer to lead the rebuilding efforts to complete Target’s fastest restoration ever.  Bomanite Licensee Concrete Arts was contracted to be a part of the demolition of the damaged carpet, VCT and corresponding adhesives. The scope of that first stage was completed the last week in June of 2020. Concrete Arts removed approximately 110,000 square feet of flooring in a week running double shifts.  Concrete Arts then left the site to allow for extensive repairs and changes to the concrete. They came back in on August 1st and had five weeks to polish the 90,000 square feet of flooring.  Working 12 hour days, six days a week Concrete Arts finished in 4.5 weeks despite being at the epicenter of the social justice fight which subjected them to three separate shut downs due to further protests.

A Reimagined Store Is Restored.

Bomanite licensee Concrete Arts installed the decorative concrete flooring at the newly redesigned and reconstructed Target East Lake in Minneapolis, MN, using Bomanite Custom Polishing Systems with Bomanite Patene Teres.

Concrete Arts installed Bomanite Custom Polishing Systems decorative concrete flooring using Bomanite Patene Teres to complete the redesigned, reimagined, and community inspired reconstructed store.  The new store has a secondary entrance and a well-lit walkway from the rail station to help increase access and to address community voiced safety issues.  The new pharmacy is located closer to the front of the store between both entrances so that elderly shoppers now walk a shorter distance to reach it.  Acknowledging the diverse neighborhood, Target even added a greater variety of spices.  The community asked for more food and more produce, and those sections were almost doubled.  The significant changes to the store culture and the store environment were made to match the community concerns.

Award Winning Decorative Concrete Concrete Arts earned the 2020 Best Bomanite Custom Polishing Systems Project Honorable Mention Award for this extraordinary project.  As per Mike Dougherty of Concrete Arts, “As you can see from the photos, the damage was quite extensive, but we were able to make some pretty good lemonade out of the lemons we were dealt. Our company feels a great deal of satisfaction in helping this suffering neighborhood try to get back to some sort of normalcy.”

The Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport is the newest major airport in Brownsville, TX. With quick access to the Gulf of Mexico and US Interstate Highway, this airport serves as a strategic hub for all international and domestic airlines, as well as private aviation operations and continues to grow and support the expanding community.

Brownsville-Airport-Texas-Bomanite-Modena-SL-3aIn developing the buildout of a new passenger terminal Corgan Architects along with Jacobs Engineering developed new design elements and an aesthetic overhaul that reflects the region and culture of Brownsville. Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport was formerly designated as the headquarters of Pan American’s Western Division in the 1930s. The airport made history establishing the first international Airmail Service when Charles Lindbergh landed in Brownsville in 1929 after a historic flight from Mexico City. The city then became a pioneer training center for teaching pilots to fly with navigation instruments only.

The new two-story, 89,000-square-foot building utilizes the latest terminal design features and amenities that include designing and constructing a new four-gate terminal and a Federal Inspection Services (FIS) Facility for commercial and general aviation, replacing the existing facility built-in 1971. Previously restricted to regional aircraft, the project now allows the airport to accommodate larger aircraft and is designed for a future terminal expansion with expected increased air travel.

Brownsville International Airport Renovates Passenger Terminal with Bomanite Modena SL Custom Polished Concrete in Nickel Gray installed by Texas Bomanite Licensed ContractorWhen it came to renovating and revitalizing the airport, Corgan wanted to make sure that the city’s unique history was represented in all design aspects. Corgan worked with Bomanite Licensee, Texas Bomanite, starting in December 2017 on the initial design, several 6” x 6” concrete samples of different gray tones and finishes were a must-have to a make sure the airport flooring would provide as much as an insightful impact as the surrounding structures. Working in close proximity to Corgan’s office allowed for several larger-scale mock-ups to be seen in person at Texas Bomanite’s facility. Ultimately polished concrete was chosen for its long-term durability and low maintenance. Texas Bomanite contracted through the winning bid GC SpawGlass Contractors to provide 42,300 square feet of the Bomanite Modena SL polished concrete system; an installation that finalized in December 2020.

Brownsville International Airport Renovates Passenger Terminal with Bomanite Modena SL Custom Polished Concrete in Nickel Gray installed by Texas Bomanite Licensed ContractorThe final color of choice was Nickle Gray Bomanite Modena SL, used throughout the ticketing area, TSA Security Checkpoints as well as the upper floors for Boarding. Texas Bomanite provided the ultimate solution to the early design concerns for finding an acceptable concrete finish for the existing structural slab. The polished concrete floor in gray complimented the stainless steel borders seen throughout the terminal. Precast stair treads were also created with the Bomanite Modena SL system for a cohesive design. Bomanite Modena SL is a versatile engineered interior polymer modified cementitious topping that is blended with selected aggregates and then ground and polished to the desired gloss level. The new terminal floors were prepped with 24-40 metal bond diamonds and a rapid set epoxy primer with sanding to refusal prior to installing the Bomanite polished concrete system. Polished to a final 800 Grit with Bomanite Stabilizer Poly Pro and Bomanite VitraFinish provided for a solid surface with superior stain resistance. Metzger McGuire RS-88 in warm stone was used for the joint filler to complete the overall custom decorative concrete flooring for the Brownsville International Airport.

With the Bomanite Modena SL systems ability to be installed over concrete or properly prepared wood substrates, with cove base and stair components generally pre-cast, it made for the perfect complement to the overall design elements and architectural plans. Having the industry’s lowest lifecycle costs, low to zero VOC and minimal maintenance requirements, Bomanite Modena SL was the optimal choice for Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport and earned Texas Bomanite the 2020 Best Custom Polishing Systems Project Bronze Award.

The Jaffrey Park Theatre has a long history that began in 1922. The Park Theatre was the center of community life as a movie and vaudeville house for 54 years and in 1976 became a retail store and warehouse. In 2005 The Park Theatre Corporation decided to purchase the building and renovate the historical site. Almost 20 years later The Park Theatre has been rejuvenated and ready to provide artistic, cultural, entertainment and educational programs and activities for the residents of and visitors to the communities of the Monadnock Region of New Hampshire.

Premier Concrete Construction brought to life the Hollywood walk of fame in the main lobby of the Jaffrey Park Theatre with a sleek dark Bomanite Renaissance Polished Concrete Floor as the background to the Golden Stars engraved with donor names in brilliant blue created with the Bomanite Modena TG system. The Park Theatre was rebuilt as a sustainable, state-of-the-art film and performing arts center, featuring two auditoriums and presenting movies, live theatre, including children’s productions, concerts, live acts, lectures and symposiums as well as a venue for community and business gatherings.

Calling up BKA Architects, The Park Theatre Corporation requested that the building façade use an Art Deco period design to recapture an element of sentimentality for the 1920s era and as homage to the original theatre with the founder’s home on top. With the design intent, they knew they wanted a polished exposed concrete floor and when the time came in February 2019, the architect reached out to Bomanite Licensee, Premier Concrete Construction, LLC to discuss the possibilities. With little under 5,000 square feet to work with, Premier Concrete met with Caroline K. Hollister, Trustee, President and Treasurer of The Park Theatre and Matt Pelletier of BKA Architects at their Boston Decorative Concrete Showroom. It was at the showroom that the clients learned of the different textures and colors of concrete.

An important design element was the star sponsorships, each donor over $10,000 received a star with their name engraved such like the California Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Bomanite Custom Polishing System Renaissance was the choice for the main lobby entrance flooring, in a dark black color, to provide a background that would make the golden stars pop off the floor. In order to achieve the deep dark color, Premier Concrete created a custom Raven Black Integral Color. Using Bomanite Integral Color provides for uniformity of color throughout the depth of the Concrete while producing durability and longevity of the concrete itself. During the polishing process Black Concrete Dye was added to the top of the colored slab to achieve the deepest darkest color possible.

Premier Concrete Construction brought to life the Hollywood walk of fame in the main lobby of the Jaffrey Park Theatre with a sleek dark Bomanite Renaissance Polished Concrete Floor as the background to the Golden Stars engraved with donor names in brilliant blue created with the Bomanite Modena TG system.Premier Concrete crafted a solid solution for creating the stars with a molded form that was placed before the concrete was poured. Once the field of Black concrete was set and polished, forms were removed and a formulation of Bomanite Modena TG, a modern terrazzo like mix, filled the voids. The Bomanite Modena TG Bomanite Custom Polishing System used 3 different colors of yellow glass in 3 differing sizes along with touches of mirror glass to provide the bright golden contrast against the Black backdrop. Once set, each donors name was engraved into the star and displayed with a metallic epoxy for some old-world Hollywood glamour.

Park-Theatre-Premier-Concrete-NH-Bomanite-Renaissance-Modena-TG-7Prior to the work being started, several samples of contrasting color palettes were created and shown to the clients as well as onsite mockups. Determining the best plan to bring the Park Theatre’s vision to life was critical to the success of the space and intent of design. Premier Concrete’s showroom allowed for the clients to learn more about the possibilities of Bomanite Decorative Concrete. Samples provided the clients with ease of mind and a visual to a stunning end result.

This grand project won Premier Concrete Construction the 2020 Silver Award for the Best Bomanite Custom Polishing System Project. With Premier Concrete’s quality of work and creativity, The Park Theatre now showcases a distinct decorative detail while providing a dynamic regional center for the arts and entertainment as well as an artistic meeting place for the community.

For example, the diamond is an important symbol to the Chahta people and often represents the Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake. The diamond pattern is replicated in the decorative concrete pathway that sits between the hardwood and stone flooring. The project was unusual for Bomanite of Tulsa as in working with the designer’s intent the chosen Bomanite Exposed Aggregate System Revealed and Bomanite Sandscape Texture are traditionally exterior applications, however the clients truly desired the exposed look with bright native American colors to go with the additional rustic flooring materials for the interior space. Bomanite Revealed is a sustainable finishing option that incorporates a unique binder and color blending process with specialty aggregates that works for projects requiring a highly decorative and durable finish. The Bomanite Revealed with solid glass aggregates in white, black, red and yellow was selected for the vibrant diamond border as well as the circle surrounding the firepit.

The need was met by building up the area by 1 inch to 1 ½ inches. Providing a technically challenging project, a bonded application for both systems were used. Expansion joints had to run through the borders as well as be incorporated in the diamond pattern, brass divider strips were used to set apart the different colors of glass aggregates. Founded 43 years ago, The Richards Group has produced award-winning advertising campaigns for some of the most recognizable brands in the world and is known as the largest independent agency in America. Before the advertising giant and its sizable staff of 700 moved into the new 550,000 square foot The Richards Group building near downtown Dallas they knew they wanted the lobby to have a modern sophistication that supported the company’s culture.

Texas Bomanite, Dallas TX, installed the Bomanite Custom Polishing VitraFlor System for The Richards Group new office building lobby floor with a salt and pepper aggregate exposure finish.

Working with Perkins + Will Architects and owner Stan Richards, Bomanite Licensee, Texas Bomanite was called in to provide the polished concrete floor, initially only for the lobby area to greet incoming clients and visitors. After seeing the finished product and realizing the potential of the durability and benefits, the owner decided to incorporate the Bomanite polished concrete system into all the common spaces on 8 additional floors thus substantially increasing the scope of the work.

With the project well under way and in order to meet the General Contractor, Manhattan Construction Company’s established schedule, Texas Bomanite agreed to build the work in 2 phases. This phasing required Texas Bomanite to do the first part of the work prior to the installation of the exterior curtain wall, a highly transparent glass skin that was designed to allow dramatic changes from day to night. Texas Bomanite brought their expertise and a new meaning to “polishing to the edge” while working on floors 11-18, making for some very exciting views for the crew. In total, over 70,400 Square Feet of floors and walkways were polished to a 1500 grit finish with a salt and pepper aggregate exposure complimenting the three-story stairwell atrium and workspaces.

In designing the new class-free workplace, Perkins + Will created an open work environment that offers endless opportunities for creative collaboration that fit the egalitarian culture at The Richards Group. Each idea was evaluated on only two criteria—how it enhanced the quality of space or the quality of their culture. Polished concrete floors bring numerous benefits for the end user and work well in corporate buildings. Polished concrete is a very dense finished surface with little porosity left once finished. This inhibits the collection of dirt and dust which can be trapped in carpet and become airborne along with allergens and other pollutants. Bomanite polished concrete also “breathes” allowing moisture vapor normally trapped in non-permeable floor finishes or retained in carpet to pass through the system without the potential to encourage mold to develop. Another benefit for Bomanite polished concrete flooring is that it meets all national traction standards providing excellent slip resistance in both wet and dry conditions. The Bomanite Polished Concrete system was the choice for an optimal environment for the company’s culture as well as the health and safety of all employees and visitors.

Texas Bomanite was awarded the 2015 Best Bomanite Custom Polishing Project GOLD AWARD for their expertise and high-rise polishing details while finishing the project under budget and on time.

The mixed-use structure features the Brothers Marketplace on the first floor and four floors of apartments sit above, delivering on the brand’s promise “Eat. Drink. Be Local.”

With the market emphasizing local producers and vendors, reaching out to local Bomanite Licensee, Premier Concrete Construction, was appropriate. Premier Concrete worked with the designer and owners to establish the perfect floor not only to accommodate patrons but equipment as well; shopping carts, hand trucks, utility carts and adjustable shelving. Unlike traditional floor finishes, such as carpet or vinyl tile, polished concrete does not require extensive maintenance procedures such as waxing, burnishing or wet vacuuming, a benefit the owners appreciated.

Bomanite VitraFlor utilizes select un-colored concrete that is placed and finished to standards required for decorative polished concrete flooring. The concrete is ground to expose the desired amount of aggregate, then polished to the required gloss level and treated with a Bomanite stain resist.  Samples of differing gloss and aggregate exposures were reviewed. The decision was made to install 12,000 sq ft of the Bomanite VitraFlor system with a Class B Fine aggregate exposure, with little or no medium aggregate at random locations known as a salt and pepper finish. The floor was then polished to a Level 3, which typically produces a medium-high sheen level with a 50-60 Gloss reading.  The primary benefit to Bomanite VitraFlor is the simplicity of installation and durability of the finished floor, lending to its low-maintenance and long-term sustainable features.

Brothers Marketplace was a concept born from second-generation siblings Rick and Ed Roche of the well distinguished Massachusetts supermarket, Roche Bros.
