Widely regarded as the dean of parking structure construction in the West, Bomel was the design-build general contractor for the 1,169-stall parking structure, self-performing all structural concrete. Bomel also acted as the subcontractor for the structural concrete, formwork, rebar and metal decks for the buildings. The larger hangar-like structures feature a unique design idea. Rather than concentrating the lobbies, elevators, stairs and services at the center of the building as most commonly seen in traditional office parks, Rios Clementi Hale Studios positioned them at the perimeter of the spaces to produce more usable interior space while maximizing the indoor/outdoor lifestyle. Sliding and roll-up doors open to balconies and terraces that overlook an array of outdoor rooms, parks, and amenities with exterior stairs that provide direct access to plazas which act as outdoor lobbies and extensions of the workplace. The layout cements the design firm’s approach to creating pedestrian-friendly access throughout the project.

Natural stone such as granite, quartz or marble along with unique aggregates such as recycled glass or porcelain are common aggregates of choice. A dark gray Bomanite Integral color with natural gray washed finishes and Ivory botticino aggregates were used to transform the open space into active pedestrian landscapes that promote social interaction and alternative spaces for work and collaboration. The overall design uses active landscape strategies including exterior amenities to diversify the outdoor workplace experience.

The natural non-skid properties and abrasion resistant aggregates result in a robust concrete with high-strength performance that has an excellent life cycle with reduced maintenance requirements. The Flight at Tustin Legacy’s installation of Bomanite Revealed for the decorative concrete landscapes is the perfect architectural exterior allocation for the working living playing lifestyle.

What happens when an Interior Designer grabs hold of the great outdoors? A creative free-spirited, bright and relaxing space that’s interchangeable with the seasons and gathering conversations. Lisa Davis, Interior Designer, owner of ESB2, worked with her client to style and design the exterior of their home. The homeowner had a blank canvas for the front and backyard space, making it ideal and at the same time a large task to get everything just right that expressed the homeowner style and family’s activities.

Viewing several samples of architectural concrete for design and color that would fit into a cozy cobblestone cottage feel, Davis visited Heritage Bomanite’s showroom to help with narrowing down the choices. Working with Davis’ design plan, Heritage Bomanite transformed the front and back yards by not only installing a decorative concrete driveway, back patio and walkways, but also roof structures, a BBQ island and entertainment center, a fire place, a fire pit, artificial grass around the pool and lots of stone veneer columns and seat walls. One of the first elements was to move the garage door from the side of house to the front to allow for caters to fully set up in the garage to create a better flow and function for entertaining their large extended family and friends. From the back of the house it looks like an extension of the original design of the home.

The imprinted pattern runs the length of the driveway and front entryway set in a Bomanite Sand Color Hardener and a Bomanite French Gray Release Agent to compliment the clean lines and stone of the exterior of the home. Bomanite Color Hardener provides durability beyond vehicle access, its tough enough to stand up to the wear and tear of inclement weather, kid scooters and catered events, it can handle any kind of traffic. The Bomacron English Sidewalk Slate pattern was continued in the backyard patio, dining and entertaining and play areas providing long-term and multi-functional uses with an overall installation of 4,659 square feet.

Bomanite Licensee, Beyond Concrete, was called upon to help with the Landscape Architects street design for the new World Trade Center Tower Two. The plan called for a street design with sitting area located between the two towers, connecting the next to be constructed Tower Two, and the newly finished Tower One.

Two World Trade Center connects with One World Trade Center using Bomanite Exposed Aggregate Alloy Systems for the decorative street design and sitting area installed by Beyond ConcreteBeing that this project was the World Trade Center rebuild security was top notch during the installation. Working at the site required daily security passes for all Beyond Concrete’s crew members. It took as much as two hours each day to go through the security checks, lunch breaks required the General Contractor, Posillico Civil, Inc. to provide an escort so the Beyond Concrete team could return to the work area.

The theme of the design was to have the overall tone set in the gray family, starting from light gray at the building line and transitioning to dark gray by the street area. The project design consisted of approximately 7200 sq. ft. of 7” thick, epoxy reinforced concrete, poured in five twelve-foot-wide strips, each strip approximately 120 feet long. The 12 ft. wide strips were divided into 12’ x 12’ squares and saw cut into 3’ x 6’ rectangles for dimension and style.

Two World Trade Center connects with One World Trade Center using Bomanite Exposed Aggregate Alloy Systems for the decorative street design and sitting area installed by Beyond ConcreteThe World Trade Center Tower project required multiple samples and conversations with the architect given the complexity of design and the various pour thicknesses the site dictated. The original request was for the Bomanite Exposed Aggregate Sandscape Texture System in five different shades of gray to be installed in sequence, exposing local sands within the integrally colored concrete.

It was determined that in order to have a consistent appearance there needed to be two processes used on site to accommodate the conditions that both resulted in the same finish. A bonded overlay for thinner sections and an unbonded topping slab for thicker. Once the process was determined and the architect saw the more decorative Bomanite Alloy finishes, the decision to use the Bomanite Exposed Aggregate Alloy System was clearly the best choice.

Some sections of the installation required priming and a mortar bed that was slurry overlayed with Bomanite Alloy Color Hardener. The standard areas used conventional concrete with the Bomanite Alloy Color Hardener applied in a traditional dry-shake fashion. All areas received the same final finishing and exposure of the fine reflective aggregates contained within the Alloy.  The color started with Bomanite Nickel Gray Alloy and progressed towards the street with Shale Gray, Castle Gray, Coal Gray and ended with Cobblestone Gray.

Beyond Concrete achieved the Architects vision with the best Bomanite Decorative Concrete System and in conjunction provided a low-maintenance, high wear resistant, architectural concrete finish for the 2 World Trade Center Tower Street Design. For their outstanding work, Beyond Concrete received the 2018 Best Bomanite Exposed Aggregate Project Bronze Award. Bomanite Decorative Concrete at its finest!

The Great Wolf Lodge opened one of their latest resorts in Bloomington, MN. The Gensler Architect team was hired for the renovation project. With one of a kind entertainment options, Bomanite Licensee, Bulach Custom Rock (known for their work on themed projects) was able to provide 5,000 square feet of the specified flooring that matched the outdoor adventure theme. With the existing floor in place, Bulach Custom Rock came through with the Bomanite Thin-Set Stampable Overlay Toppings System in three different patterns that were used intersecting in multiple areas which provided some challenges for the layout.

The Great Wolf Adventure Park houses several non-water attractions, including the Rustic Ridge Rock Wall and the Howlers Peak Ropes Course, that guests embark on an invigorating, multi-level climbing challenge traversing over Oliver’s Mining Co. where they can search for keepsake gemstones. For the mining area Bulach Custom Rock created the look and feel of actual dirt with the Bomacron Erosion Series Dried Earth Texture and added pathways of stone with the Bomacron Small Sandstone pattern.

Additional activities include MagiQuest, the brand’s exclusive live-action adventure game where players follow clues and use interactive magic wands to discover relics and runes needed to defeat a fierce dragon. The Bomacron Fishscale Belgian Block pattern was used to create that old world feel of stone castles. The MagiQuest area was produced using the Bomanite Shale Gray Integral Color then utilizing a Bomanite Natural Gray Color Hardener wash before it was sealed.

The difficulty of the project was in both access and area control. Whereas multiple trades were utilizing the same spaces at the same time, Bulach Custom Rock installed all the stampable overlay during the overnight hours with the use of mostly temporary lighting. Due to Bomanite Thin-Set’s benefits of being trafficked quickly, Bulach Custom Rock was able to have the flooring installed on schedule.

Bomanite Thin-Set is a specially formulated polymer modified topping mix that will bond to any stable, structurally sound substrate. This unique system allows the installation of a thin, imprinted concrete topping when installed at 3/8″ thick and can be feathered to a zero edge that was helpful when the overlay needed to seamlessly match up to an existing tile floor entrance for the Great Wolf Lodge.

Bomanite Thin-Set is an extremely effective alternative to the demolition or remodel of an existing substrate, making it a perfect choice for the Great Wolf Lodge Renovation.
