Texas Bomanite installed approximately 3,000 SF of Bomanite Sandscape Refined Antico to create a decorative concrete hardscape that honors veterans across all branches of the military.

The City of Carrollton, Texas  is proud to honor our country’s veterans with exhibitions located throughout the city.  The Veterans Memorial Plaza is the newest display and was created to honor veterans across all branches of the military who have served around the world.  Carrollton’s Mayor Kevin Falconer stated, “The purpose of the Veterans Memorial Plaza is to remember and honor those men and women who served and sacrificed in defense of our great nation while we educate future generations about the courage and valor exhibited by these veterans.”

Bomanite Sandscape Refined Antico decorative concrete adds stunning detail to Veterans Memorial Plaza with bronze stars that highlight where the major conflicts took place.

Featured at the memorial are five illuminated panels that showcase each military branch and a large ground-level concrete map of the world.  The world map design includes bronze stars that highlight where the major conflicts took place with an American flag placed over Washington D.C.  An area of the plaza was raised, allowing visitors to view the memorial from an elevated surface and giving them the opportunity to absorb the history of our nation while remembering and honoring those who have served.

Structural Integrity Meets Distinct Design Aesthetic

Featured at the Veterans Memorial Plaza are five illuminated panels that showcase each military branch and a large ground-level concrete map of the world with the American flag placed over Washington D.C.

Bomanite Licensee Texas Bomanite was brought into this special project to create the entire ground-level concrete map of the continents, along with the star decorations within the map.  They installed Bomanite Exposed Aggregate Systems using Bomanite Sandscape Refined coupled with the Bomanite Antico finishing process to create approximately 3,000 square feet of distinct decorative concrete.

Bomanite Sandscape Refined Antico decorative concrete was used to create the hardscape surface at the Veterans Memorial Plaza and was placed adjacent to memorial panels that highlight the military branches.

Bomanite Sandscape Refined is an architectural exposed concrete with a very fine exposure depth and in this case was paired with the Bomanite Antico process to create a surface with fissures, voids, and other random effects not normally seen with traditional finished concrete.  Sandscape Refined Antico is a unique aesthetically pleasing alternative system that is suited for exterior applications and provides long term durability, low maintenance, and high safety features.

The continents were further distinguished by adding a sandblast finish and the entire map was tinted using Bomanite Buckskin Con-Color to create consistency across the hardscape while adding beautiful coloration that emphasizes the unique textural detail.

Technical Expertise and Exceptional Results

Distinct areas of concrete were created using Bomanite Sandscape Refined decorative concrete with areas that feature a Bomanite Antico finish and areas that feature a sandblasted finish with bronze stars that highlight major conflicts.

From the conceptual stage and specification development right through to a customized maintenance program, Bomanite professionals bring unmatched expertise with superior Bomanite systems.  Bomanite product lines deliver the best possible combination of creative design options and technical expertise.

This stunning soldier statue sits within a section of the plaza where bricks are laid in dedication to loves ones who have served in the military.

Texas Bomanite’s goal in constructing the plaza hardscape was to provide structural integrity while maintaining the designer’s intent and creating a unique and stunning design aesthetic.  Their technical expertise, exceptional planning, communication, and execution resulted in an exceptional project.  Former Carrollton Mayor Ron Branson, a U.S. Air Force and Vietnam War veteran, said the memorial will pay tribute to veterans who did not stand by in the face of danger, but instead volunteered to place themselves in harm’s way for the good of others.  The outstanding installation of Bomanite Sandscape Refined Antico earned Texas Bomanite the 2020 Best Bomanite Exposed Aggregate Systems Project Honorable Mention Award and provided a durable, distinct, and remarkable feature that will honor veterans for years to come.

Bomanite Licensee Bomanite of Tulsa installed over 2,500 SF of Bomanite Revealed and Bomanite Alloy to create decorative concrete pool decking for homeowners.

This beautiful backyard retreat was created to serve as an outdoor extension to an already stunning home, with contemporary design and distinct detail that enhance the home’s architecture.  Bomanite Licensee Bomanite of Tulsa, Inc. was enlisted to create the pool decking and provide a surface that would visually and functionally complement the pool while also enhancing the home’s exterior and landscaping.

Durable Hardscape Decking with Versatility for Distinct Design

Residential hardscape features stylish and contemporary design for durable, decorative concrete pool decking that was installed by Bomanite Licensee, Bomanite of Tulsa.

Bomanite decorative concrete is the optimal choice to create swimming pool decking because it provides high durability and versatility for customizing color, pattern, and design style.  The homeowners were originally planning on color and rocksalt but after a visit to the Bomanite of Tulsa showroom they changed their material selection to include Bomanite Exposed Aggregate Systems with Bomanite Revealed and accents of Bomanite Alloy

Bomanite Revealed with bands of Bomanite Alloy were installed here by Bomanite of Tulsa to provide slip resistant and highly decorative pool decking.

Bomanite Revealed combines the durability of concrete with color and pronounced decorative aggregate and utilizes pre-blended binders, light fast pigments, topical treatments, and advanced application procedures to produce a finished product that showcases the seeded aggregate.  Unlike most surface seeded installations, Bomanite Revealed provides 100% exposure of the decorative aggregate with no native sands detracting from the finished appearance.

Bomanite of Tulsa installs Bomanite Revealed and Bomanite Alloy to create contemporary concrete pool deck design that complements the home’s architecture.

Bomanite Alloy is a unique alternative to other decorative concrete finishes and provides an architectural exposed finish with varying exposure depths using non-native quartz and decorative aggregates that are surface seeded on the concrete.

Bomanite Revealed and Bomanite Alloy both provide an architectural finish that is highly suited for exterior applications, including pool decks or anywhere that improved wear resistance for light to moderate-duty vehicular or foot traffic is required.  Additionally, these highly durable surfaces are available in a multitude of standard and custom options, including light-reflective formulations that reduce heat island effect, water resistant formulations for wet areas, and other specialty applications that can be personalized to your project.

Installation and Award-Winning Results

Bomanite Revealed and Bomanite Alloy were installed here to create beautiful finishes that provide durability, slip resistance, and add distinct design detail.

After the finishes were selected, Bomanite of Tulsa set to work with the installation.  The pool coping was poured first, followed by the field of Revealed.  Alloy was then used to fill in the bands and the combination of Revealed and Alloy was perfect to provide increased surface and slip resistance.  The exposed decking reduces heat island effect, making the pool deck walkable and not hot to the touch.  The drains were incorporated into the exposed aggregate concrete and feature a concealed slot drain design that was chosen to eliminate the sight of drain grates while providing efficient drainage.

From start to finish this project ran smoothly and resulted in a contemporary decorative concrete pool area that broadens the home’s living space, providing an outdoor retreat for the homeowners and their guests to enjoy.  The installation of Bomanite Revealed and Bomanite Alloy earned Bomanite of Tulsa the 2020 Best Bomanite Exposed Aggregate Systems Project Honorable Mention Award for their outstanding efforts in creating a durable and distinct hardscape while adding ambiance and enhancing the homeowner’s sophisticated style.

Community Park, located in Jefferson City, MO is a 3.5-acre neighborhood park that children and adults alike are enjoying. Jefferson City Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department opened the much-needed renovated park before officially complete so that residents could start exploring the park features for family outings and outdoor getaways. Landworks Studio, LLC provided master planning and construction documentation services as part of a complete renovation to meet the needs of the nearby residents. The master plan showcases the history of the surrounding Historic Foot District and offers design elements to bring a diverse population together to participate in outdoor activities and gatherings.

Colorful Splash pad Represents Historic Foot District

The water is on a minute-long timer to save water when it’s not being used, but nearby are three buttons on pedestals to turn them right back on when they’re in use. In order to complete the splash pad design and ready it for use, Bomanite Licensee, Musselman & Hall Contractors, LLC were called in to put the finishing touches in place. Landworks Studio had specified a Bomanite exposed aggregate finish with several Bomanite concrete stains, the local winning bid contractor, Sircal Contracting, was unable to fulfill the Bomanite specification portion therefore they formed and installed the gray bands while Musselman & Hall finished up the 995 square foot pour with Bomanite Sandscape® Texture colored with seven different Bomanite Con-Color penetrating stains in Beech, Coal Gray, Mist Green, Paprika, Steel Blue, Travertine Beige and Sienna. Stencils were applied to create the historical representation of the foot district.

The Sprint Center, Kansas City’s home for sports, concerts, family shows, collegiate competitions, tournaments and special events has been open since 2007 and recently known as the T-mobile Center after the merge in 2020 with Sprint Corporation.  Bomanite Licensee, Musselman & Hall Contractors, LLC installed 64,000 square feet of concrete hardscapes during the construction of the arena. A small portion of their work involved The Moon’s Plaza, which you can still see today.

Sprint-Center-Moon-Plaza-M-and-H-Bomanite-Sandscape-and-La-Paz-Stone-2The project designer, Chris Doyle, created The Moons as the Percent-for-Art component of the Sprint Arena. In front of the huge glass arena, Mr. Doyle created a plaza with three elliptical gardens, each with a water component. Hanging above each of the gardens is a moon, a circular LED video screen that shows individuals flying across the screen simulating orbiting the arena. Musselman & Hall was brought in by Landscape Architects, BBN Architects to bring the surface to life resembling rock and sand textures. With several samples and discussions on creating the ultimate design, it was decided to go with a combination of the Bomanite Imprint Systems and  Bomanite Exposed Aggregate Systems.

Sprint-Center-Moon-Plaza-M-and-H-Bomanite-Sandscape-and-La-Paz-Stone-10Providing the ability to accomplish the right amount of detailed hardscape a custom imprint pattern, La Paz Random Stone, created of random rocks was designed to achieve a natural stone look once stamped. The pattern was then colored with Bomanite Black Color Hardener, a coloring agent that delivers increased durability, wear resistance and fade resistance. Along with the imprinted surface Bomanite Sandscape Texture integrally colored in white created elevated bridges and was  woven throughout the surface to provide contrast, movement and flow to the surroundings.

Sprint-Center-Moon-Plaza-M-and-H-Bomanite-Sandscape-and-La-Paz-Stone-6The Bomanite Exposed Aggregate line of products and systems have a built-in long-life span as well as the long standing Bomanite Imprint Systems, both known for their robust durability. Concrete Arts, Inc was called upon to help create this stunning backyard transformation. The Homeowners previously had a stamped concrete pool deck that weathered the smart winters of Wisconsin and provided summer kid play and family fun gatherings for 12 years. With the kids growing older, the homeowners decided it was time to create and renovate the space to provide a more adult oriented entertaining retreat.

Concrete Arts, Inc. had the opportunity to create a stunning transformation for the homeowners backyard renovation with the Bomanite Revealed Exposed Aggregate System supplying a slip-resistant, durable pool deck that caters to daytime relaxation and upscale evening gatheringsConcrete Arts, Inc. tore out the existing stamped concrete as well as the fencing which was limiting the size and design of the project and was no longer needed per a change in the city ordinance. The homeowner wanted to have several seating areas for entertaining and relaxing so creating shade and expanding the deck was a must. Once the old concrete was removed the footings were installed for the pergola and trellis design. Seventeen 18” x 54” frost footings were drilled and poured. Concrete Arts then started the process of building the imposing structure out of rough-sawn cedar. Simpson decorative fasteners were used to add aesthetics to the structure, and it was stained with Australian Timber Oil.

Once the pergola was built, Concrete Arts was able to begin setting forms for the concrete decking. The existing slide was eliminated and replaced with five water fountains which shoot into the pool for a playful touch. A concrete basin was erected at the side of the deck for the basalt stone fountain water feature providing an artful background with textural variation.

With a convenient location on the edge of the Front Range, Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center offers a welcome reprieve from the usual. The hotel showcases the state’s alpine charm through every nature-inspired detail of the property. The Gaylord Resort is Colorado’s largest hotel built to date and was the largest hotel project under construction in the US during 2018. It was also the largest project Bomanite Licensee, Colorado Hardscapes installed in 2018 with over 150,000 Square feet of architectural concrete imprint and flatwork placed.

Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center creates rustic coloradan inspired environment with Bomanite Systems

The 1,501-room resort is joined by a 485,000 Square foot convention center and an extensive indoor/outdoor water park on a sprawling 85-acre site. Recreational facilities include a 800-foot lazy river, expansive event lawns, a resort style outdoor pool, 22,000-square-foot indoor pool venue with slides, tennis courts, pool bar, putting course and a basketball court. The outdoor space is planted with native vegetation and includes walking paths.

Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center builds rustic coloradan rustic environment with Bomanite Imprint Systems of Stamped Slate and Stamped Brick patterns for interior Grand Lodge Restaurants and WalkwaysColorado Hardscapes’ scope for the architects flooring and hardscape plans included the incredible Grand Lodge atrium, decks for two pools and the lazy river, all hotel and convention center entrances, and the west event center lawn and convention center sidewalks. A variety of Bomanite products and techniques were integrated to create multi-dimensional surfaces for this highly-animated rustic environment. Defining the right combination of materials, finishes, imprints, colors, hardeners and many other variables was no small effort. Three rounds of product samples and pricing were considered in pre-construction before finally arriving at the specified package.

Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center builds rustic coloradan rustic environment with Bomanite Imprint Systems of Stamped Slate and Stamped Brick patterns for interior Grand Lodge Restaurants and WalkwaysIn the Grand Lodge, the Bomacron Small Random Slate imprint pattern created a textured, rock walkway. Careful placement, impression-by-impression, assured a deliberately, on-repetitive, natural-looking result. Conversely, incorporating the Bomacron Running Bond Belgian Block imprint required rigorous placement precision to achieve an intentionally consistent look. Both imprints required extensive layout preplanning, consideration of mix-design constraints related to accessing work areas, and coordination with other trades.

Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center builds nature inspired water park complex, interior flooring, entrances and walkways with Bomanite Exposed Aggregate System, Bomanite Sandscape Texture in Aurora, COAcross the sprawling site, the Bomanite Sandscape Texture Exposed Aggregate System was mixed with three different integral colors to produce a high-profile hardscape surface that feels great under bare feet for the indoor/outdoor pool decks and compliments the natural surroundings for the installed hardscape. Because the dry, loose soil of the Colorado prairie is difficult to grade and doesn’t hold moisture well, the Colorado Hardscape crews took special care to compact and re-compact work areas during site preparation to confidently assure long-lasting work. Crews completed a massive 21,000 hours while working together in three to four different areas around the site at the same time. The biggest challenge of this project was that the vast site and the enormous building required a multitude of trades to be working almost everywhere simultaneously.

Setting it apart from other similarly-sized resorts, Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center was designed to authentically capture a local sense of place. The resort’s interior design and décor is modeled after aspects iconic to Colorado – everything from cascading waterfalls over boulders and local nature artwork to native landscaping and elevators designed to look like old mine shafts. These planned elements carry over into guest rooms, with aspen tree-inspired carpets, lumberjack plaid print pillows and hiking and camping maps in the closets. The Convention Center includes charming Colorado details sprinkled throughout which represent ski tracks, snow drifts and snowflakes. The Bomanite Imprint Systems and Bomanite Exposed Aggregate Sandscape Texture were the perfect Bomanite Decorative Concrete aspects to add cohesion with the interior flooring and exterior hardscapes of this native Coloradan built resort.

50 Fifty DTC is a unique tower that contains a six-story office building above eight levels of parking (two underground) in the Denver Tech Center of Colorado. The area is known for its typical suburban office complex featuring buildings set among a sea of asphalt parking lots and expansive lawns. With the densification of the area the client wanted something different and design inspired by nautical nuances. The office building’s design was driven by a desire to express a strong sense of style on a highly visible property. Every material selected for the construction of 50 FIFTY was considered with only quality and performance in mind. From the handpicked granite to local artwork adorning the hallways, there were no short cuts taken, only design excellence.

Tucked beneath a series of V-shaped structural members, the design creates a dramatic entry and is intricately articulated with lighting both above and below to resemble the motion of waves lapping against a vessel. Guests are greeted with a direct view into the marble-lined lobby through the elegant interior glass curtains. An adjacent terrace offers a semi-private garden level space.

The design called for a great deal of precision related to saw cuts both as joints and aesthetic elements. Saw-cut joints radiate toward the building in diverging rays and special, radius-cut joints were fit-out with illumination to mimic the undulating LED lights integrated overhead. Recognizing the difficulties with delivering a uniform finish with the Bomanite Sandscape Refined System on complex, curved, and multi-level surfaces, Colorado Hardscapes worked to address this challenge with additional technical training and multiple testing to produce the expected quality and hi-end result. The detailed walkways and curbs seamlessly match the interior décor which contrasts against the dark-grey Integrally Colored concrete broom finished drive lanes, creating a black-tie luxury experience.

The Sandscape Refined System utilizes specialized concrete mix designs, dry shake color hardener and/or integral color, topical treatments and advanced application procedures to produce a finished product that showcases the fine aggregate. The final product is a unique alternate to other decorative concrete finishes that produces a monolithic concrete slab with a low life cycle cost due to the pre-aged nature of the surface.  Bomanite Sandscape Refined is suited for exterior applications both new construction and major renovation projects. Bomanite Sandscape Refined is a perfect choice anywhere that improved wear resistance for light- to moderate-duty vehicular or foot traffic combined with an architectural finish is necessary. Due to the use of Bomanite Color Hardener, these highly durable surfaces are available in a multitude of colors, including cost effective light-reflective formulations that may not require the use of white cement to reduce heat island effect.

This Nautical themed office complex with its floor-to-ceiling glass, natural light that fills every office and core space, environmentally friendly products, water saving landscape design, creates an extremely energy efficient building. The sustainable design, materials and construction allow 50 Fifty to seek LEED Gold certification with this stunning sophisticated design.

Colorado Hardscapes won the 2018 Best Bomanite Exposed Aggregate System Silver Award for their precision and technical installation.
