The future of physical shopping is about creating a compelling destination and a location specific experience to engage the public to generate return visitation. Tanger Outlets Daytona, working with project designer, EDSA and decorative concrete craftsmen, Edwards Concrete Company provided just that! Bomanite Licensee, Edwards Concrete, with their expertise in the decorative concrete field helped to create an ultimate shopping experience that provided the guests with the feeling of spending the day at the racetrack with a beachy vibe. Working for four months building out walkways, major thorough fares, plazas, outdoor living areas and a splash pad playground along with thousands of feet of decorative concrete curbing, Edwards Concrete pulled out all the stops to transform the 38-acre site design into a contemporary social gathering mega shopping mall.

Breaking the mold of a traditional outlet mall, Tanger Outlets Daytona was designed to provide a fresh and unique appeal to their customers. The aesthetic styling is a combination of beach-industrial and mid-century modern theme with brand name stores located in the interior space that are connected by the outdoor walkways and plaza spaces inspired by the Daytona International Speedway that lies just a few short miles away.

Common gathering spaces, “pit stops”, create points of convergence; media lounge, two outdoor living rooms, three cabanas, lighted sitting swings, and shading trellis contribute to the social shopping experience.  To facilitate the beach theme Bomanite imprinted concrete in a Bomacron Boardwalk pattern was incorporated into several of the lounge areas as well as common walking areas along the front of retail shops. In addition, a kid worthy splash pad playground and central water fountain support the family-focused atmosphere. Edwards Concrete used several ocean inspired blues of concrete colorant for the surface area of the splash pad and sandblasted the defining bands in beige to mimic the water and sandy beach vibe.

The Dr. Sanford and Lois Benjamin Healing Garden is a welcome haven enhanced and architecturally engineered using Bomanite Imprint Systems with Bomacron decorative concrete patterns installed by licensee, Carolina Bomanite. What used to be a plain gray concrete pad adjacent to the emergency room waiting area at Carolina Medical Center-Mercy in Charlotte, NC, is now a beautiful 4,000 square foot garden where loved ones and hospital staff can relax and heal. The serene area has a courtyard, sitting areas, walkways and plenty of landscaping.

The 1,500 square feet of Bomanite imprinted concrete has multiple textures, colors, and patterns including Bomacron Regular Slate and Bomacron Small Sandstone. Pebbles and stones were strategically placed and included into the walkways to provide a tranquil, but easy to navigate setting. The text in the decorative concrete circle was “etched” into the concrete and Bomanite Con-Color was used to highlight the thought provoking words.

Patients who are waiting for test results or recovering from surgery may find the garden to be a peaceful environment during stressful times.”

During construction, the location and access to this small area directly outside of a busy hospital emergency entrance created a difficult work environment for the crew. Most days their trucks had to park two blocks away in a small back lot behind the hospital. From seemingly chaotic stressful challenges of the construction site emerged a truly beautiful healing garden that features gorgeous decorative concrete for this busy uptown hospital. The Bomanite Imprinted Concrete System is not only pleasing to the eye, it obviously also helps in the healing of body and spirit for patients, visitors and staff.

Anderson University Decker Hall Plaza recently underwent renovations for their centennial celebration. Students returning from summer vacation arrived to a newly-paved valley along with many other changes that improved the appearance of the 100 year old campus.

KRM Architecture, Inc. worked with the local Bomanite Licensee, Shepherds Construction Co, to help recreate the original paving in a more stable, durable, cost-effective and aesthetic appealing paving material. Bomanite Stamped Concrete Imprint Systems was chosen for its realistic appearance to brick. The Bomaron Running Bond Used Brick pattern was colored throughout with an Integral Color and highlighted with a Bomanite Release Agent to show the texture and old worn brick finish.

Bomanite Stamped Concrete is highly durable long-lasting for harsh winter environments and stands the test of time for several million footsteps a day, making it ideal for the Anderson University campus.

“[President Pistole] speaks to excellence in all things, and our campus needs to strive to reflect that excellence,” said Dean of Students Chris Confer, speaking to the reasoning behind renovations this year. The renovations include replacing uneven bricks on the walkway with concrete that will still appear to be brick, but is a more cost-effective material than brick. The plan to add greenery will also improve the aesthetic appeal of the area.

“[The area outside of Decker] is the front door to our campus,” said Confer. “These renovations will improve its appeal and eliminate the hazard of broken and uneven bricks that can be difficult to walk on and can possibly cause injury, especially in bad weather.”

In 1970, Decker Hall was completed, replacing Old Main as the central academic building on campus and consisted of 10,000 square feet of brick pavers installed over concrete sub-base and sand leveler. For the Centennial Celebration the pavers were removed and disposed of with new construction of curb planters, 5,000 square feet of Bomanite stamped concrete and approximately 3,300 square feet of broom finish banding and tributary walkways, giving this project a brand new start to another 100 years.

The Great Wolf Lodge Resort is the largest family of indoor water parks that opened in 2016 in Garden Grove, California. The 12-acre family entertainment resort has a hotel and conference center and is California’s first and only indoor water park. 18,000 square feet of retail and dining options make this truly a grand resort.

Working with Ridge Landscape Architects, Bomanite Licensee Bomel Construction, employed the Bomanite Imprint System designed to fit with the incredible theme and very unique architecture. Multiple uses of the Bomanite Boardwalk stamp were installed at the entrances and entryways using a Bomanite Adobe Tan Integral Color and Bomanite French Gray Release Agent to enhance the Lodge woodsy exterior build. The Boardwalk Pattern was framed with opposing Bomanite Integral Colors and Bomanite Release Agent borders. The Alicante pattern, resembling the flow of water or an incoming wave, provided a unique and interesting walkway that was seeded with 3/8” white china rock in dark gray and exposed with a light sandblast, mimicking water, sand and rock to invite the customer into the themed water park.

The Bomanite Imprint System adds a distinctive architectural touch to any project, together with the durability to stand up to the toughest traffic loads and environmental conditions. For over six decades, Bomanite Imprint Systems have offered homeowners and design professionals a virtually limitless palette of colors, textures, and patterns to choose from.
